Soleil; diary of a forgotten princess
I’ve been hit by the Sailor Moon bunny. This one has been in my notebook for quite some time. Hoe, the LONGEST time.
When I first developed this bunny, it was around 1998-1999, back when I was first introduced to Sailor Moon. At the time, I was only just beginning to get the hang of internet life and spent most of my time in chat rooms. Back then, chat rooms were not so ‘dangerous’ and I was a little crazy online.
It was not until much later that ‘otaku senshi’ began appearing and later after that when some people began writing about how to better otaku senshi. Everyone had to have an otaku senshi site, even now. Unfortunately, it seems that fans with otaku senshi site don’t have the time to work on their… //coughcough// designer skills and most of the sites are a pain to load or look at. Some are so painful to look at that I kill my browser via the task manager and run away from the computer.
Nowadays, otaku senshi creators seem to know each other, as they all link each other as affiliates. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re all friends, maybe they’re all part of a cult? I’ve wondered. There’s some very nice otaku senshi sites, I won’t deny it, and some of the otaku senshi aren’t //gasp// Mary-Sueish. Brilliant, eh?
Alright, I’m getting off track.
So, back then I had this plot bunny for an otaku senshi. They weren’t known as otaku senshi yet, but whatever. I keep getting off track.
My senshi was thought up around 98-99 but she didn’t begin to take form until about 2000, when they began showing Sailor Moon on the telly. She didn’t have a name either, until around April 2006, and was only known as Sailor Sun. I know it’s unoriginal, but at the time I didn’t think there were senshi from other galaxies as they never showed the Stars season.
I developed her more fully last year, I believe, just because I don’t like having undeveloped characters. Even if I’m never going to give them life.
She then, surprise of all surprises, became Raiden’s great grandmother. Raiden being my baby, then, and only original character. I didn’t like her for a while, she was meant to be a Mary Sue, but I grew to love her when she began developing on her own. Raiden did that by taking over my brain! She became Soleil and I called her the ‘forgotten princess’.
Now. Why am I babbling about this? Well, because yesterday I was reading over my notes and bunnies, rediscovering her. I realized that I had developed her so much, it was almost cruel that I hadn’t give her life (i.e. written a fic about her). I had planned a three part story where she integrates herself into the Senshi team, then began throwing in twists (I’m well-known for my never ending twists).
I was hit by the sudden urge to fulfill Soleil’s ‘dreams’ and began the process of creating a website. After much toil, I decided to mix and match ideas: from Sigsource;I liked the header logo and sidebar, from RedDragon; I decided to use the diagonal background pattern but couldn’t get it to work properly, I had to give it a ‘fixed’ position which I hate. Most inspiration came from Sonia’s blog; as you can see if you compare. For the moment, the above image is just a psd, I plan on changing things so it’ll look better. This version of the site was meant to work with Wordpress, but I haven’t actually decided yet. Plus, there is no soleil.co.uk, or if there is, it’s not mine and it’s not going to be. I just couldn’t fit in reinscape.co.uk on there.
The image of Eternal Sailor Moon’s abdomen doesn’t exactly match the rest of the layout either, but I don’t have any Soleil images at the time. I did once upon a time, but I have no idea where they went. I was told they were nice, too.
I’m having a difficult time deciding on the sidebar headings. The speech bubble idea from Sonia doesn’t really fit in, but I had no idea what to do at the time. Well, at the moment I’m rather proud of how it’s looking. Maybe this site will actually get off the ground. In my dreams.
